WECI 91.5 FM Richmond Public Radio
"I personally believe that WECI was THE institution whose existence is responsible for bringing unifying many of the rowntree members under one umbrella. Does anybody agree? Do you have any memories of WECI that you would care to share?" - Ben Racher
WECI Culture and Equipment
I'd thought about that before. For one thing, how much equipment was actually "borrowed" from the station? Lots of microphones and cables. And I think the 8-track was actually borrowed on behalf of WECI. I remember at least one late night recording session at WECI, too. I think it was Snatchclaws. I was sitting in the production studio drinking beer. I think. The weird thing to me is that we completely had the run of the place. Can you imagine what would have happened if there was some kind of different oversight of WECI? Some element that held people accountable when they lost microphones or broke equipment?
The other aspect of this that seems important is that WECI was a space where students and people from outside Earlham met and interacted... collaborated. That was powerful, given the overall sense of divide between the two.

Ad Staff
WECI's Ad-Staff was a pretty incredible mix of people. I wish there was a timeline illustrating who was involved in the decimation of professionalism at WECI. Was it Gregg Burkhead? Eli Reusch (who gave it to Burkhead)? Who worked before Eli? Or any of the other many clowns (Punk and Metal Show) that sought to bring broadcasting to its knees.
If you take a look at WECI's Website it looks like things have been cleaned up a lot around there... but no matter what, Clay will be doin the night shift.

FYIs
The lack of professionalism was a long term cultural thing at WECI. Not really Burkhead's fault. Of course, it didn't help that no one on AdStaff gave a shit about anything he said or thought. Also the station manager before Eli was Katherine Lord. I don't know who was before that, but there was a dude named Luke at one point (possibly during Billy's tenure...?) I met him once when he was walking across campus with an armload of WECI records and he walked in front of Barrett Hall and I ran after him yelling out "What are you doing with WECI records?!?!?" (I was always a little over-protective of the station's records since so much stuff was gone already) and he explained who he was and he was doing a show that night. I remember that his name because the voicemail password was "LUKE" and also on the CD catalog, there was an entry with his name in the artist field and "I'm the fucking station manager" in the title field.
